Here are peeks into the jugs that I put under the spruce tree…they get a tiny bit of sun, but this winter has been so warm I didn’t want them to start growing too early. Left to right: Cantaloupe=doing good! Cukes=not so much. Waltham Butternut=Eh. That “Eh.” is a direct quote from our daughter. 🙂

Not one of the Brussels Sprouts came up, so I turned that jug in to Luffa’s. I’ve never grown those before, so I thought it would be fun to try!

A Peek Under the Greenhouse

BUT….. do you remember the cool season jugs I brought in the house to get a head start?!?! Well some of those have turned into flats because they out grew their jugs! The far one is cabbage and the close one is kohlrabi and broccoli!!! Doin’ fine! But I have a problem….I have a hard time thinning plants when I plant too many seeds, so THAT’S why I ended up with 48 cabbage plants!! Ha Ha!

And notice over on the left side….that open jug….? Green onions…by the gazillion! I don’t know where I’m going to plant them yet, but I’d better hurry up and figure that out!

Under my greenhouse, small seedlings.

These little guys, planted in the ground of the greenhouse, are from top to bottom of photo: a few extra cabbage that didn’t fit in the flat. Then, this side of the green flat is a tiny row of sugar peas, then Swiss Chard, Spinach, and in the very front is SUPPOSED to be a lettuce mix, but the only thing that grew are these Bok Choy’s. I really don’t even know what to do with it, except eat it like salad/spinach leaves!??

And looky here!!! Did you see them?! I had my first radishes the other day!! They were kind of tiny, but oh, so good!!

a red radish peeking out from under it's greenery in the early garden.

Albert Sandwiches

Maybe I should make my favorite radish recipe a post of it’s own, but I’ll just share it here….. It’s called an Albert Sandwich….our own name for it, named after the man who taught us to make it!

Ingredients:

A slice of bread, a couple radishes sliced pretty thin, butter, salt and pepper. The end.

Directions:

Spread your slice of bread with butter, cover the butter with slices of radish, then salt and pepper to taste. That’s the end of this complicated delicacy. It sounds so odd, and so simple that it shouldn’t tase good, but really and truly, it is VERY good! Let me know if you’ve heard of it, or maybe you already eat Albert sandwiches?

I know this is not a thrilling picture, but….. Here is my wide row of peas, not one poking through yet. And at the very bottom of the photo, if you look REALLY close, you can see some onions poking through! And don’t forget to notice my cheering section at the far end of the garden! 🙂 🙂

A wide row of green peas planted and watered in the garden.

Well, it’s funny how all winter I’ve been ACHING for the winter that never came, but now that it’s spring, I can hardly wait for spring!! Are you gardening this year?

Well, that’s the end of what’s going on in our garden so far…. Thanks for being here, and do come again!
