We have a cat named Geronimo. And yes, he is a weird cat-in so many ways! He is also a HUGE, beautiful, spoiled brat….OOPS!–I mean cat. His ancestry must have some Siamese in it–either that, or he is too inbred, and it has affected his vision…not bad, but enough to notice it sometimes. Occasionally, he misses the step up to the porch, or when we call him from across the yard, he may not look quite in the right direction, until we get closer. Nothing big, but it’s obvious that it’s not 20/20! Kind of irrelevant, except….

Odd Happenings…
A few years ago we started noticing bits of bark and sticks strung up and down the sidewalks, and up on the porch. Hmmmm, that’s odd…at first we thought that our dog, Breeze, the stick/bark/mulch/toy eater was doing it……but no….

Then we started hearing one of the cats making interesting noises out in the yard, and eventually figured out that it was Geronimo! As he came in from the tree row, we would hear him before we saw him….
Caught in the Act!
One day we caught him at it, THEN we understood where all the stuff all over our sidewalks was coming from! He was carrying a chunk of bark, or a nice stick in his mouth, and meowling around it as he walked up to the house. I think I made that word up, but it’s kind of between a meow, and a call, and a yowl…..like he was calling us to come see his treasure. Or maybe he was pretending to be the Great White (gray) Hunter, and we interrupted his hunt?
I’ve never been lucky enough to catch a video with him making the noise, but here are two of him being caught in the act of littering! What a mess he is!
Anyway, every time we acknowledge him…he drops the treasure and quits meowling, and acts like he isn’t doing anything abnormal! And obviously, that’s not the only reason he drops them, because some days the sidewalk is FULL of these treasures.
Whatever the REAL reason is, we will never know, but our theory is that he sees these sticks, and pieces of bark, with his poor eye sight, and he thinks they might be prey….? He pounces on them and thinks, “Wow! I’m such a good hunter, I got him the first time!” Then, he proudly hauls it up to the house to show off his great hunting skills.
Apparently, it matters not at all that these little “preys” don’t move…are quite hard…and don’t smell in the least like anything of value! They are worth catching again, and again, and again, and again…..
And there is my weird cat story…..or as my mother likes to say, “That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!”
Tell me…Do you have a weird cat story? Does your cat think sticks are treasures? What does your cat do that’s a bit off-the-wall? Let me know in the comments, I’d like to be entertained!
Thanks for stopping by!
