Breeze is our silly, lovable 1/2 Golden Retriever, 1/2 Yellow Lab. She is a LOVER of stuffed animals, and a very real source of entertainment at our house. Here she is with her newest stuffed cat!

Breeze and her latest stuffed animal.

Breeze is the greeter! Whenever someone drives into the driveway she will frantically run around looking for her latest stuffed animal. If possible, she will ALWAYS grab it before she goes to greet the visitors, then, pal in mouth, she will stand at the car door waiting for them to get out.

The catch here, is that people and Breeze don’t always think along the same lines. People always want to take the toy and throw it for her….Breeze, on the other hand, does NOT want anyone throwing her “baby” around!! She just wants to say Hi, and get some lovin’s!

She often tells us good morning, at the kitchen window with her friend of the moment!

When we got her, she was 7 months old, and she came equipped with her very own stuffed duck….and she LOVED it!

She loves them all dearly, but the call to show off is too great…. She HAS to shake the tar out of them if she has an audience–the more we laugh, the more she dances and shakes! And once she shakes an arm or leg off, it’s a fight to keep her from pick, pick, picking at it with her front teeth to get ALL the fluff out that she can reach! 🙂

So, it’s no surprise that some mornings we wake up to a yard full of white fluff, and a very limp, un-puffy rag of an animal laying somewhere near!

Showing off, with the turtle our friends got her. She appreciates each toy, no matter the species. Lamb, cat, bear, turtle, giraffe, all are loved and shook equally!

Missing Stuffed Animal Friends

She plays and shakes and carries each toy around for months….until she shakes it to pieces, OR it disappears! Either by coyote, or hawk, or owl….or? One day we just realize that it’s gone! Or….sometimes we find it-shredded into a million pieces, and not by Breeze!

The photo below is poor Breeze checking out the remains of one of her lost buddies after a disappointed hawk or coyote was done with it.

We think the rotten thieves must see the old dirty toy as a free meal. So, they carry it off to eat it, then soon realize that it indeed ISN’T what they thought it was!

Sometimes we’ll find one way out, away from the house, laying there forlornly, sometimes even in one piece, but where we know Breeze hadn’t been lately. Probably kidnapped by a deceived coyote!

One time, a few toys back, we found it peeking over the edge of the tippy-top of the end of the Quonset. Kind of creepy! ….Just minding my own business, going to shut my chickens in, and look up to see this chewed up THING staring over the edge of the roof at me!! Aaaccckkk!!

That was before we had figured out what was happening to all of her toys! I’m just really sorry I can’t find the photo of the traumatic experience! 🙂

I know goldens are prone to have the need for stuffed babies, but I have also seen other breeds have them. Does your dog have one? Do they love it, or annihilate it?

Thanks for sticking around for my doggy tales…..I do love my darlin’, goofy mutt! Come again!
