I guess I should really confess…. This is not about tortillas. And no, it’s not a recipe. It is about plum trees….about WILD plum trees and bushes. To be MORE specific, it’s about the SMELL of these trees!

I actually am not even SURE about the tree part…..I need some help here. I don’t even know what these trees are. But I DO know, that they smell exactly like a wild plum bush. Please, If you know what these trees are, tell us in the comments!

Here’s the story…

I went to see our boy, who lives in Minnesota. While I was there, we went to a state park to do a bit of “naturing”– you know, fresh air and sunshine and the like. Anyway, we went walking along through the woods, enjoying the brisk spring air–minus the sunshine–this is spring in Minnesota, mind you. We kept seeing all of these beautiful, white flowering trees.

Beautiful, white blooms covering a little tree in the Minnesota woods, smelling intoxicatingly like....white corn tortillas!

LOTS of these beautiful, white flowering trees! I’m actually more of a fan of those GORGEOUSLY dark pink flowering kind of trees–Red Bud trees, but I was really enjoying all of these. And then….I got up close, and smelled one and…..BOOM! I was FLUNG back into my childhood!

Be prepared–when you read other articles about the plum blossom, they have very different opinions of the fragrant scent!

An up close of the blooms of these beautiful flowering trees, smelling intoxicatingly like....white corn tortillas!
Here’s a not so clear close up of these intoxicating blooms!

I’m not sure when or where I first smelled this unique, intoxicating smell, but it was the same back then as it is to this day. Are you ready? Those beautiful white blossoms smell EXACTLY like white corn tortillas!!

And before you scoff too loudly, please go find a wild plum bush, or one of these trees, and then promptly, with the scent still fresh in your nose, go the the store, find a bag of fresh white corn tortillas, (paid link) and squeeze it, and inhale. You will be whisked back to when you were standing before the tree and inhaling it’s glorious scent! I kid you not! Try it!

**And just for the record, my boy and I may or may not have done that very thing. Ha!

Another burst of white blooms, hidden away in the forest.

I read up, trying to find out what these trees were…to no avail. But I did find a plethora of vastly different descriptions of what a plum blossom smells like… Sweet, flowery, slightly fruity, fresh, dewy….and such.

A long row of these beautiful trees , along a creek, in the forest., in a frisbee golf course.
A whole row of these beautiful trees, along the creek, in a Disc Golf course.

And…..I suppose that’s all true, but if you ask me, I still say they smell like a good, fresh, corn tortilla! Let us know what YOU think a plum blossom smells like!

Thanks for coming!
