Favorite books. You know how it is….your child wants you to read THIS book….for the thousandth time. You can either roll your eyes and sigh, and vote for a different one, OR you can happily snuggle in and start reading!
All Books Are Not Created Equal!
NEWS FLASH: Some children’s books are fun to read aloud on repeat thousands…well, maybe only hundreds…of times, and some are absolutely NOT fun to read on repeat thousands of times….no offense, but it’s just a fact of life! And of course, as we know, that book list is different for each family/teacher. Reading to your littles is SUCH an important activity, the more the better, but it needs to be enjoyable for you and the child, or it becomes a chore!!
Being a mom and a daycare giver, I have read LOTS of children’s books–some of them over and over and over…. I HAVE to enjoy the book, even after the 30th time, or it’s ME throwing the fit! Ha Ha! Here are some of my favorite books that both children and adults can enjoy, on repeat, over and over and over…..

1. “Going To Sleep on the Farm“, by Wendy Cheyette Lewison. Illustrated by Juan Wijngaard. (paid link) Ages: 1 – 3 years
This is one of our ABSOLUTE FAVORITE books of all time! I’m sorry to say that it is out of print, but there are several used options. And, couth or un-couth, I’ve bought several used ones off of Amazon to give as gifts because it is SUCH an adorable book! Way back, when our daughter was born, this book came in a book subscription deal. Our children loved it, and every child that has come to our house has loved it. And actually, before they even knew they loved it, I read it to them on a daily basis because I loved it, and never tire of reading it!

2. “Seven Silly Eaters“, by Mary Ann Hoberman. Illustrated by Marla Frazee. (paid link) Ages: 3 – 7 years
This is such a fun book! We lucked out, and our children aren’t picky eaters, but whether they are or not is irrelevant, this book is a winner!! This poor mama had SEVEN picky eaters! but the remedy is perfect!

3. “Verde’s Vacation“, by Lea Ann Norris (paid link) Ages: 5 – 9 years
This fun book wasn’t around when our kids were young, but my daycare children are FANS of Verde! And I am too! It’s an exciting story about a discontented Saguaro cactus, that wants to see the world. His vacation takes him on a multi-climate tour, and it’s delightful that we get to go along with him!

4. “Sweet Dreams“, by L.C. Falken. Illustrated by Lisa McCue. (paid link) Ages: 2 – 4 years
This, too, is one of the books that has gotten read SOOOOO many times at our house through the years! The simple story is one we all can enjoy and understand. It’s universal–every child plays, eats and snuggles in to sleep…..with a bedtime routine! These bunnies have a calming, sweet one that we get to enjoy also!

5. “Lilly’s Purple Plastic Purse“, by Kevin Henkes. (paid link) Ages: 3 – 7 years
This for school age children, but every age can still enjoy it. Lilly is a precocious little mouse that loves EVERYTHING….especially some things! But sometimes that can get you in trouble! This is one I quote regularly! Ha

6. “What Will You Wear, Jenny Jenkins?”, by Jerry Garcia, David Grisman. Illustrated by Bruce Whatley (paid link) Ages: 3 – 8 years
We don’t actually own this book, so no photos, but we borrowed it from the library. Libraries are lovely things! This one didn’t get read quite as much as the others on the list, because of it, but that sure didn’t mean it wasn’t enjoyed! The book, on it’s own, is very enjoyable, but it has a tape to go with it, which is a very necessary thing to get the most out of it! It’s a rollicking tune, about a bear that can’t decide which color to wear!
And that’s it! We read, and still read lots of different books, (that’s an interesting sentence, isn’t it?! READ and READ) ……. but to date, the books on this list are some of our very favorites to read aloud to the littles. What are your favorites? Tell us in the comments!
Thanks for being here!
